Amber Rose channels feminist icons for Paper Magazine

Paper Magazine is putting out its second “break the internet” issue, this time with a collection of photos called #Fandemonium.

As part of the push to “make fans go nuts,” Amber Rose posed as a likeness of various different feminist icons, including Gloria Steinem, Susan B. Anthony, Dorothy Pitman Hughes and Rosie the Riveter.

Rose described her experience with the negative media attention following her split from Wiz Khalifa as the spark that ignited her passion for feminism.

“I would look on [Wiz’s] Instagram and he would have pictures of all these women all over him,” she told Paper Magazine. “And then I would post a picture of me and my son. And people would be like, ‘Does your son know that his mother’s a whore?'”

“So yeah, I guess months of seeing sh** like that, I was just like, ‘I can’t live like this. There’s something wrong.'”

She hopes that she can continue to see women of all types joining her in the fight to combat sexism.

“I guess what I want with our generation is to have it not be that way,” she said. “Like, all of us as women, let’s just stick together and look out for each other. I was really glad that my Slut Walk was extremely diverse. There were all types of women from all walks of life there … That would be the main thing for me … really just try to take the racism out of feminism for our generation.”
