James Wright Chanel didn’t realize when he made his video review of Patti LaBelle’s sweet potato pies that he and his idol would soon become the best of friends. Now, they are even going to air a cooking special together!
Chanel’s video review, in which he claimed to turn into LaBelle after eating one of her pies and even sang her songs, made him an overnight celebrity and even earned her a place at LaBelle’s dinner table for Thanksgiving (which is also his birthday).
LaBelle has called Chanel her “new son,” and Chanel said that their friendship has been strong since they first talked: “When she first called, it was like we’d known each other forever; we talked like we were best friends.”
The holiday cooking show with these two will air on the Cooking Channel on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 8:30 E.T.
