According to a lawsuit, an NYPD officer kicked a man in the leg multiple times, causing the man’s leg to be amputated.
Eugene Randolph, 59, was arrested during an undercover drugs bust Dec. 6, 2012 and was accosted by NYPD Officer Edwin Feliciano, reports the NY Daily News. The officer allegedly shoved Randolph up against a vehicle and told him, “You tried to blow my partner’s cover by asking her to smoke marijuana.”
During the incident, Randolph told the officer that he had bad circulation in his leg and that he had a prescription for the condition. However, Feliciano kicked his legs apart and elbowed him in the back. The officer then continued to kick Randolph while six other cops looked on.
Randolph’s leg was amputated above the knee on Dec. 14, 2012 as a result of the kicks, the lawsuit claims.
“Mr. Randolph was entirely compliant with the arrest, informed the officer that he was taking medication for poor circulation and begged the officer to take it easy on his leg. In response, the officer ruthlessly continued to kick his leg,” his lawyer, Jason Leventhal, told The Daily News. “The heartless actions of this officer together with the failure of other officers to stop him and the negligent medical treatment Randolph received in custody, resulted in the amputation of Randolph’s right leg.”
The NYPD has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
