Hospital worker, wife accused of stealing patient IDs in $300K scam

A former employee of Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, along with his wife, attempted to steal the identities of more than 80 people, racking up fraudulent charges of around $300,000.

According to CBS New York, the couple, Kyle and Krystle Steed, are now facing charges including grand larceny, attempted grand larceny, identity theft and possession of stolen property.

Allegedly, the couple targeted elderly patients. Kyle would steal their personal information from the files of the patients, while Krystle would make calls to financial institutions and mimic the patients by altering her voice.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said that the Steeds’ actions were “morally reprehensible.”
