Transgender actress and activist Alexis Arquette called out Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith hypocrites for calling for a boycott of the Oscars, saying that they didn’t pay nearly this much attention to gay and transgender rights.
“When Jada comes out as Gay and her beard husband admits his first marriage ended when she walked in on [him and] his Sugar Daddy [name omitted] … then I will listen to them,” Arquette said in a Facebook post.
“Will threw a fit on the set of Six degrees of separation [his 1993 film] when he was required by the scene to kiss Anthony Rapp,” she continued. “He persuaded the director to shoot the back of his head in frame. Blocking the non existent lip lock entirely. F— him. Gays have enemies. They lurk in gilded closets. Outing is healthy. You are either with or against us. You decide. Today.”
The controversy, which stems from the complaints that of #OscarsSoWhite criticizing the lack of diversity in the Oscar nominations, began when Jada Pinkett Smith announced the day after the nominees were announced that she and her husband would not be attending the ceremony because she did not want to seem like she and other African-Americans had to be “begging for acknowledgment.”
