Former OKC cop found guilty of sexually assaulting black women wants new trial

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A former Oklahoma City police officer convicted of raping and sexually victimizing eight women on his beat could spend his life in prison.

Twenty-nine-year-old Daniel Holtzclaw is to be sentenced Thursday.

A jury convicted him last month on 18 charges, including four counts of rape and several other sex crimes that happened in a low-income neighborhood near the state Capitol. Holtzclaw was acquitted on another 18 counts.

Holtzclaw faces up to 263 years in prison, and a judge will decide whether his sentences will be served consecutively.

Holtzclaw’s attorney filed a request Wednesday for a new trial or evidentiary hearing, but it wasn’t clear when the judge will rule on the motion.

The Associated Press highlighted Holtzclaw’s case in an investigation of sexual misconduct by law officers.
