Aretha Franklin is doing what she can to help the residents of Flint, Michigan, as they deal with the water crisis that has resulted in toxic levels of lead in their drinking water.
Franklin has vowed to donate rooms for between 25 and 50 people at the Holiday Inn in Southfield, a Detroit suburb, and she also plans to bring meals to residents provided by the local Coney Island restaurant. Her father’s church, New Bethel Baptist, will assist in screening the individual who participate.
“Detroiters usually come to the aid of Detroiters—and Flint is certainly regarded as Detroit,” Franklin said in an interview. “Hang in there.”
