A man says that the US Marshals Service in Houston showed up at his home to arrest him for an unpaid student loan from 29 years ago.
According to Paul Aker, seven deputy US Marshals showed up at his home with guns in order to arrest him for the $1500 loan and bring him to federal court to sign a payment plan for the loan.
Aker is not the first to have this happen to him, and he may not be the last, with Congressman Gene Green saying that the federal government is now calling on private debt collectors to chase down those who still haven’t paid their student loans. The private collectors are getting judgments in federal court and can ask for the marshals to arrest those who fail to pay as a result.
