A Louisiana 5-year-old knew exactly what to do when she heard the fire alarm go off at her house, because she remembered her fire safety lessons at school.
Little Cloe Woods‘ preschool class at Our Lady of Perpetual Help had just had a visit to the Kenner Fire Department in October. “They talked to the kids saying if there was a fire you need to get out of the house,” her teacher, Brittany Gaillot, said.

So when Cloe heard the fire alarm go off, she knew she needed to get herself and her family out of the house. Cloe’s mother, Shone Arceneaux, said that Cloe rushed to her blind grandmother’s side.
“She told my mom to hold her shoulder and that they had to get out of the house,” Arceneaux said.

Acreneaux arrived home after having dropped her older children off at their nearby carpool stop when Cloe rushed to tell her what was happening.
“She was running and telling the neighbors to call 911, and I said what’s going on. She said the house is on fire, so I jump out of the car and said what?,” Arceneaux said.
Kenner Fire Department Chief John Hellmers said that Cloe’s attentiveness averted a major tragedy. “She saved her grandmothers’ life and saved her own life,” Hellmers said.
WWL-TV reports that Cloe’s family has been displaced since the fire and a GoFundMe account has been set up in their name.
