Mayor accused of stealing man’s wife at public meeting

On Tuesday night, a Spring Valley town meeting descended into chaos after a man accused the mayor, Demeza Delhomme, of ruining his marriage and stealing his wife.

“Mr. Delhomme is trying to use his power to get into my house,” said Reginald Alfred, a 48-year-old maintenance worker.

Alfred rambled on for several minutes with his claims, saying things like, “He destroyed my house. He destroyed my family. I have two daughters.”

Delhomme repeatedly denied the accusations of infidelity, saying, “I’ve never met this man.”

Trustee Vilair Fonvil then got involved, using a crude word for sex as he asked Delhomme, “And you say you don’t know him?” and “Do you know his wife?”

Delhomme replied, “I know everybody in this community. I don’t know the person.”

When the gathered crowd booed at the mayor, he boasted that “I don’t know who Fonvil’s wife is,” but that he would sleep with her if she came to his office.

The outburst came during an already heated meeting in which firefighters had arrived to petition for money to replace their aging equipment. Over the last two years, Delhomme and other trustees have been accused of repeated profane outbursts, and the government has been seemingly paralyzed by controversy.
