Car accident outside Texas day care kills 4-year-old

A child was killed in a tragic car accident outside a Texas day care.

The day care has remained closed since then.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred when an 81-year-old arrived at the day care to pick up her grandchild as well as the 4-year-old son of a family friend. The grandmother apparently thought that the children were safe inside the car when she began to put the car in reverse to leave the day care, but the 4-year-old was still climbing inside. The child was hit by the open car door and pushed under the vehicle.

When the grandmother rushed to help the boy, she did not put the car in park, according to authorities, and it rolled backwards. The car swiped another vehicle before crashing into the day care.

Luckily, the children who were still inside the day care were in a back area, and therefore, no one was injured when the car crashed into the building.

Although bystanders performed CPR on the 4-year-old and the child was taken to the hospital via Life Flight, he died due to head trauma.

The day care, according to authorities, will remain closed for now following the tragedy.
