Teacher’s aide fired, charged with physical abuse of student following leaked video

Disturbing video footage showed a Milwaukee teacher slamming a student over a table in a chokehold and calling him a “N****r.”

Last week, the footage of the incident appeared on Facebook, with the assistant teacher at Bay View High School now facing charges for physical abuse of a child. The teacher,  Jasmine Pennix, was fired the day after the footage became public.

After shoving the 14-year-old student over a table, Pennix can be heard in the video calling the student “little motherf—-r” and a “n—-r” and also shouting, “The f–k I tell you, little motherf—-r?”

According to court documents, the incident began when the student and another boy began “ripping on each other” and then the teen told Pennix to  “shut the f–k up.” Pennix pulled the chair out from underneath the teen and put him in a headlock, though the teen reported told Pennix to “come on, do something.”

“Milwaukee Public Schools has terminated the teacher aide involved in the April 20 incident with a Bay View student,” MPS spokesman Tony Tagliavia said in an email. “This decision is based on the district’s investigation of the incident. The termination is effective today.”

In addition to being fired, Pennix faces charges and could be sentenced to up to six years in jail.
