President Obama “appreciated” the sentiment in Larry Wilmore’s ‘n*gga’ comments
Saturday evening at White House Correspondents’ Dinner, comedian Larry Wilmore had many conservatives and blacks alike clutching their pearls when he dropped the n-word while referencing President Obama. The fallout continued on social media with both right-wingers and the likes of Al Sharpton expressing outrage over the moment which was televised live on cable news outlets. But now we know how President Obama really feels about it.

Wilmore, host of Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show provided the professional comedy of the evening which marked the president’s final correspondents’ dinner. Wilmore wrapped up his roast of Obama, Republicans and the press with a message of gratitude for the nation’s first black president. “Words alone do me no justice,” Wilmore said with the Obamas sitting just a few feet away. “So Mr. President I’m going to keep it 100: Yo Barry, you did it my nigga. You did it.”

There was an audible gasp in the air but no sign that President Obama was one bit disturbed by it. POTUS sported a huge grin when Wilmore made the remark. The comedian ended his routine with a chest pound and the president responded in kind before the two went in for a handshake and embrace.

But thanks to American Urban Radio Network’s April Ryan we now know exactly how the president feels. On Monday she asked White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest what the president’s reaction was to the use of the word on Saturday evening.

“Any comedian who’s signed up to follow President Obama at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner is assuming one of the most difficult tasks in comedy. Just by the nature of the engagement, that’s a tough job, following the president of the United States,” Earnest replied.
He added that he had discussed this topic with the president earlier and that Obama “appreciated the spirit and the sentiments that Mr. Wilmore expressed.”
