KARE 11 has gained access to what a viewer claims are the audio clips of the police radio traffic in the moments before the shooting of Philando Castile. Castile died after being shot by an officer during a police stop. His girlfriend livestreamed the moments just after the shooting.
While KARE 11 has tried to confirm the recordings with police, they have not commented to date.
What KARE 11 was able to verify was that the license plate listed in the recording does in fact match that of Castile’s vehicle. The location of the traffic stop matches as well.
“I’m going to stop a car,” the officer is heard saying. “I’m going to check IDs. I have reason to pull it over.”
“The two occupants just look like people that were involved in a robbery,” the officer states. “The driver looks more like one of our suspects, just ‘cause of the wide set nose,” the officer goes on to say.
A minute and a half later, Castile had been shot.
Officer: “Shots fired Larpenteur and Fry.”
Dispatch: “Copy you just heard it? … You just heard the shots fired?”
Officer: (screaming) “Code 3! Shots fired.”
Dispatch: “Copy shots fired Larpenteur and Fry. Do you need medics?”
Officer: “Code 3!”
Dispatch: “Copy. Medics — code 3 to Larpenteur and Fry.”
Officer: “One adult female taken into custody. Driver at gunpoint.”
It is not made clear to what robbery the recording was referring, but there had been a gas station robbery in nearby Lauderdale on July 2.
