Kareem Kiean Courtney, the boyfriend of Koyrrn Gaines, who was shot by police during a shootout on Monday, has been arrested after police searched the apartment that they shared together.
After Baltimore police searched the apartment, they found 26.7 grams of smack in 75 capsules, a 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition.

Police engaged in a standoff with Gaines after they arrived at the couple’s home to serve warrants for both of them. Gaines was wanted for failure to appear for a traffic violation, while Courtney was wanted on a second-degree assault charge.
Although officers knocked on the door for 10 minutes, the couple did not respond, and when police broke through the door, they were met with Gaines holding a shotgun.

Courtney fled the home early on in the confrontation with their 1-year-old child and was detained by police before being later released on his own recognizance. Gaines and their 5-year-old son remained inside and engaged in a standoff with police for hours before she was fatally shot by police officers. The 5-year-old was also injured during the exchange of gunfire.

Police have said that they will not be releasing the names of the officers involved due to “an unprecedented number of threats against police, including threats and actions against specific officers and officials.”
