Entire WNBA team kneels during national anthem

The entirety of the WNBA’s Indiana Fever team took a knee during the national anthem as a nationwide debate over the anthem and the treatment of minorities in the United States.

While their coach, Stephanie White, did not join in the protest, she told her players she was proud of them during a huddle before the game.

“I’m proud of y’all for doing that together, being in that together,” White told them. “That’s big. It’s bigger than basketball, right?”

Fever star Tamika Catchings spoke afterward saying she was proud of her team’s united front.

“(The gesture) was something that was very impromptu, but I am very proud of our team — as people — to be able to stand together for something we believed in,” she said.
