Viola Davis to campaign for Oscar nomination for role in ‘Fences’

The field for Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominations just got a little more crowded.

Paramount has confirmed that they will be campaigning to get Viola Davis nominated for her role in “Fences” for the Best Supporting Actress category.

–Viola Davis offers perfect response to pay gap between black and white actors–

Davis, who has been nominated twice before already, would face a pretty large field this year in the Best Actress category, including the likes of Amy Adams (“Arrival”), Annette Bening (“20th Century Women”), Isabelle Huppert (“Elle”), Ruth Negga (“Loving”), Natalie Portman (“Jackie”), and Emma Stone (“La La Land”).

If she campaigns for Best Supporting Actress–which she has a better chance at winning in–for her role, she also faces competition in Michelle Williams (“Manchester by the Sea”), Naomie Harris (“Moonlight”), and Felicity Jones (“A Monster Calls”).

In August Wilson’s Fences, Davis plays the role Rose, the wife of Troy, alongside Denzel Washington.
