Since Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election, there has been a significant number of protests in many cities.
Demonstrators have clearly voiced their disdain for the president-elect. Amid the protests has also been an apparent surge of racist acts performed by Trump supporters across the country.
The day after Trump captured the electoral college vote, a Twitter feed called “Day 1 In Trump’s America” began to chronicle incidents of racism following his win. Since then, the incidents have only continued.
Trump spent a great deal of his campaign speaking out against the Muslim community. After his win, at least two Muslim women reported being scared to wear their hijabs. One Muslim woman says she had a knife pulled on her by a Trump supporter as she was waiting for a bus near University of Illinois at Urbana campus. According to police, another Muslim woman was robbed in California by two men who made comments about Trump and the Muslim community at San Diego University.
In Southern Lehigh High School in Pennsylvania, students were yelling gay slurs and the n-word across the halls. Some students reportedly chanted “Cotton picker” and “Heil Hitler.”
In South Philadelphia, residents found pro-Trump graffiti on their store fronts, cars and homes. One of the damaged cars had “Trump Rules” and “Black Bitch” spray-painted across it.
There was another incident in North Carolina where a note was found on a car that read,“Can’t wait until your ‘marriage’ is overturned by a real president. Gay families burn in hell!
In Minnesota there were reports of an increase in racial bullying. In Maple Grove, messages on a high school bathroom included, “#gobacktoafrica”, “#whitesonly” and “#whiteamerica.”
At the New York University Tandon School of Engineering, students found Donald Trump’s name written on the door to a prayer room for Muslims.
In another incident, a mother posted pictures of her bruised son, saying, “Trump supporters kids did this to my son … He got called a stupid Mexican and the boy said I can’t wait for trump to deport you. The teacher told him if he fought back he would be suspended.”
In Wellsville, N.Y., a massive swastika was drawn on a park wall saying: “Make America White Again.”
And not to mention: a North Carolina Chapter of the Ku Klux Klan announced it will have a victory parade to celebrate the President-elect.
