‘False Prophets’: J. Cole releases Kanye West diss track, fans react

J. Cole has released a Kanye West diss track, which was showcased in the new documentary Eyez, which chronicles the creation of his new album, 4 Your Eyez Only.

It’s not hard to see that his lyrics are about West, as Cole raps: “Ego in charge of every move, he’s a star / And we can’t look away due to the days that he caught our hearts / he’s falling apart but we deny it / Justifying that half-ass shenanigan he dropped, we always buy it / When he tell us he a genius but it’s clearer lately / it’s been hard for him to look into the mirror lately / There was a time when this nigga was my hero, maybe / That’s the reason why his fall from grace is hard to take.”

The release of this particular track is interestingly timed not only because of West’s recent hospitalization but because of another recent diss track, this one aimed at Kid Cudi by Drake. At the time, fans went nuts, dragging Drake for poking fun at mental health issues, but for Cole’s diss track, there are a lot more encouraging messages than upset ones. This might be because West’s self-confidence has often rubbed people the wrong way, or it might be because, just before he was hospitalized, West went on a rant in support of Donald Trump.

Whatever the reason, Twitter has been all over the place on this track. Check out some of the reactions below.
