Recently, it was revealed that Yandy Smith and Mendeecees Harris didn’t get legally married, despite saying their vows and holding a ceremony to form a union together.
Now, an insider has revealed to The Jasmine Brand the reason for the decision: Harris wanted to keep Smith from being financially responsible for restitution, since he pleaded guilty to charges of drug trafficking and is currently incarcerated.
“Contractually he signed a ‘power of attorney’ over to Yandy. They did their wills together, so they have rights as a couple. However, their situation is tricky. At the time of their wedding ceremony, his plea wasn’t signed yet, so they weren’t sure if he was going to have to pay restitution,” the source said.
They then went on, “If he would have had to pay restitution, Yandy would be responsible. And that’s something that he didn’t want. So they had to wait for his plea deal to be signed and unfortunately it was after the 60 days.”
But as for whether or not the two were married, the source insisted that they were: “Yandy and Mendeecees are actually married. They took vows and committed themselves to God.”
Harris also posted on Instagram about the controversy, writing, “I hear the talks out there but let me tell y’all now @mr_camron is my homie for life and miss thang @yandysmith is MY MOTHER F&%kin WIFE til the death of me! Y’all jump on anything.”
