Nicki Minaj is making waves and breaking chart history this week for her song “Black Barbies,” which became her 70th Hot 100 track.
The song, which entered the list at number 65, was first released as an unfinished version on SoundCloud Nov. 15 and then finished and rereleased commercially on Nov. 30.
Minaj has now surpassed Taylor Swift and only trails behind Aretha Franklin for the second most entries among any women in music history.
The women with the most Hot 100 hits are as follows:
73, Aretha Franklin
70, Nicki Minaj
69, Taylor Swift
57, Madonna
57, Rihanna
56, Dionne Warwick
53, Beyonce
53, Connie Francis
48, Brenda Lee
47, Mariah Carey
43, Miley Cyrus
41, Barbra Streisand
40, Mary J. Blige
40, Janet Jackson
40, Diana Ross
It should be noted that Minaj has been credited as the lead artist on 27 of her hit entries; that works out to 39 percent. Franklin, on the other hand, has been the lead on all of her hits.
Minaj shouldn’t get too comfortable with her lead over Swift, however, as the pop singer has a new song coming out with Zayn that’s expected to be a massive hit.
