Gabrielle Union and BET settle ‘Being Mary Jane’ lawsuit

Progress has been made in Gabrielle Union’s breach of contract lawsuit against BET in regards to her hit television series “Being Mary Jane.”

“BET Networks is pleased to announce that they have reached an amicable agreement with Gabrielle Union and look forward to sharing the new season of Being Mary Jane with its loyal fans beginning January 10, 2017,” the network said Tuesday in a statement.

As soon as Union filed the multi-million-dollar suit against the network in October, fans of the show were worried it meant the show would not be returning to television.

According to Union, BET and the producers of “Being Mary Jane” had gone back on their agreement to have a long break between the 10-episode seasons four and five.

Union’s camp claimed that the producers disregarded their promises in order to cut costs and run the production back to back.

She was seeking general damages of at least $3 million and requested that BET agree that they will not let any season run longer than 13 episodes.

No word has been released about how the new deal will affect the action SAG-AFTRA has taken against BET regarding their broken contract with Union.
