During the second round of the Australian Open, Serena Williams won against Lucie Safarova to advance to the third round, and after the match, she also won against a reporter who criticized her performance.
“Looked a little bit of a scrappy performance. A few more unforced errors, a few double-faults,” the reporter said.
Williams seemed shocked as she said, “I think that’s a very negative thing to say. Are you serious?”
“Just my observation,” the reporter replied.
“Well, you should have been out there,” Williams said. “That wasn’t very kind. You should apologize. Do you want to apologize?”
The reporter, apparently realizing the mistake, said, “I do. I’m sorry.”
“Thank you very much,” she said. “That was a great performance. I played well. She’s a former top-10 player. The last time we played together was in the finals of a Grand Slam.”
