Thursday night was the night before Donald Trump will be inaugurated as the next President of the United States, and protesters against the incoming president clashed with police and Donald Trump supporters as the night wore on.
Anti-Trump protesters gathered around the National Press Club, which was holding the “DeploraBall,” an event where Trump supporters gathered. The event was named for Hillary Clinton’s comment that Trump supporters were a “basket of deplorables.”
As hundreds of protesters gathered outside the event, one Trump supporter, James Allsup, told Fox News that the anti-Trump protesters became violent, claiming that he was hit in the head with a flagpole.

“‘I was wearing my ‘Make America Great Again’ hat, and a white male came up behind me and swung at me with a flagpole — I kind of blacked out for a minute,” he said, then added, “Before I knew it my head was gushing blood — there’s blood on my Trump hat.”
Allup also took to Facebook to show his alleged injuries, and in a picture, he can be seen with blood all over his hand, though the alleged head injury is not visible.
Additionally, about 200 protesters attempted to enter the Trump International Hotel on Thursday night but were met with barricades and riot police. At about 9 p.m., according to the Washington Post, protesters were hit with “chemical spray” as trash was being thrown at Trump supporters.
“This is to build up momentum and mobilize people so that whatever s*** is coming down the pipe with Trump and Pence — their regime — we need to be ready,” 26-year-old Sarko Sarkodie, one of the protesters, told CNN. “The alt-right’s vision for this country is not the one that we need. I’m out here tonight because I want to be part of the resistance efforts happening this week, and the resistance that’ll be happening the next four years.”
According to a Metropolitan Police Department spokesman, no arrests were made.
