Chelsea Clinton took to Facebook to lay into people who have been making fun of 10-year-old Barron Trump for his behavior during the weekend of Donald Trump’s inauguration.
“Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does-to be a kid,” she posted on Facebook Sunday before then adding, “Standing up for every kid also means opposing POTUS policies that hurt kids.”
It was the second part of her post that drew criticism, as many saw Clinton as using Barron for her own political message: the very thing that the first part of her post told people not to do.
One person called her a “hypocrite” and posted, “If you agree kids should not be targeted fine. Leave it at that. Otherwise collect your $600k a year and go away.”
However, others showed their support for Clinton and Barron.
“I remember your childhood in the White House. The media was sometimes very cruel. Children don’t have a choice as to what their parents do. I hope he’ll be allowed to just be a kid,” said one commenter.
“He is an innocent child. Loved watching him play [peek] a boo. Be kind people,” said another, referring to the moment captured on film when Barron was playing with his nephew during the inaugural parade.
