According to the New York Post, Eric Garner’s widow, Esaw Snipes, will remain in public housing despite the large settlement she received in the case of her husband’s death.

Snipes won over $2.4 million in the settlement and received $500,000 up front, with the rest to be paid once a dispute between lawyers has been settled. But because the settlement is not counted as disqualifying income, Snipes will be able to remain at the Fulton Houses in Chelsea without even having to pay higher rent, according to a rep for the New York City Housing Authority said.

Neither Snipes nor lawyer, Jonathan Moore, would say why she will be remaining in public housing.
