The estate of Anthony Barré, a deceased New Orleans rapper known as Messy Mya, is filing suit against Beyoncé, claiming that the “Formation” singer used a clip from Barré’s 2010 video “A 27 Piece Huh?” in her hit song.
The estate claims in the suit that Beyoncé took Barré’s “I like that,” in his voice, straight from his video. What’s more, they claim that she blew them off when she was confronted about it.
Now, Barré’s estate is suing for $20,000,000 in back royalties and other damages.
Barré was shot and killed in 2010, and the clip constitutes some of his final recorded words.
