After President Donald Trump told a news reporter Thursday that he would gladly meet with the Congressional Black Caucus if she, the news reporter, would “set up the meeting,” the Congressional Black Caucus tweeted a letter sent to Trump a month ago, requesting such a meeting, that he never responded to.
“Hi, @therealDonaldTrump. @We’re the CBC. We sent you a letter on January 19, but you never wrote us back. Sad!” tweeted the caucus’ official Twitter account. It was accompanied by a link to the letter, which requested the new president to meet with the CBC to address the concerns of African Americans.

Earlier that day during a press conference, President Trump told veteran African-American reporter, April Ryan, that he would meet with the CBC after she asked him if he would include the Black Caucus when discussing his agenda for urban policy.
“Tell you what, do you want to set up the meeting? Do you want to set up the meeting? Are they friends of yours? Set up a meeting,” Trump responded.
In the letter addressed to President Trump on Jan. 19, the day before Inauguration Day, members of the Congressional Black Caucus criticized his “New Deal for Black America” policy proposals and pleaded with him to work with the Caucus.
“If you are serious about addressing issues in the African-American community, you would be wise to tap into the decades of expertise held by Members of our Caucus.”
