Laverne Cox reveals she turned down offer to appear in ‘Lemonade’

Over the recent Grammy weekend, Laverne Cox was able to meet her hero, Beyoncé, for the first time, and she was very clearly over the moon about it, if the pictures are anything to go by.

But if things had been slightly different, Cox could have met Beyoncé before now, as she was offered a chance to be part of Lemonade and its visual album.

“Actually, Miss Tina [Lawson] contacted me about their initial concept of ‘Sorry’ from Lemonade,” Cox told People. “They wanted to have all these powerful, empowered black women in the video and they wanted to have me and Viola [Davis] and Kerry [Washington].”

Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to be part of the project because of previous commitments.

“I was shooting Rocky Horror Picture Show at the time and they were like, ‘Can you get the EP [executive producer] to shoot something and send it to us?’ and there was just no time to do it,” she explained.

But ultimately, it didn’t work out, and Cox said that she still loved the album anyway.

“The concept changed. And could you imagine anyone else? I mean, there was Serena Williams, like, giving us full life.”
