On Saturday night, nationally-known performer Chyna Gibson was killed in a shooting in New Orleans.
The transgender woman had reportedly gone to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, only to be shot multiple times in a parking lot on Saturday.
The activist group Black Trans Women, Inc. has since released a statement concerning her death, saying, “Chyna Gibson had gone home to New Orleans to like thousands of other people, celebrate Mardi Gras and be with her family during that festive time. Instead, she was brutally murdered.”
Police have not yet commented on whether this might be a hate crime, and no suspect or motive has been released for the shooting.
