Oneal Morris, the Miami-area transgender woman who became known as the “toxic tush doctor” for allegedly injecting women’s butts with materials including tire sealant, was sentenced to ten years on Monday after she pleaded no contest to charges of manslaughter and practicing medicine without a license.
Morris was charged in relation to the death of Shatarka Nuby, who started to receive injections in 2007. Nuby died in prison in 2012, with the cause of death being found as “massive systemic silicone migration” from her buttocks and hips.
After Nuby’s death, her aunt testified that she had accompanied her niece on several occasions to her visits with Morris, and she claimed that the silicone used in the injections was from Home Depot.
However, in court, Morris claimed that Nuby was a friend and that she would never use an unknown substance, like the sealant or cement, in her injections, according to WSVN.
Morris reportedly decided to take the plea bargain because she did not feel that she received a fair trial due to the media coverage surrounding the case, as well as her own enlarged buttocks.
Morris was sentenced to serve her time in a men’s prison rather than a women’s prison.
