4 dead after Houston woman opens fire on family members

On Friday, four people were killed and one injured when a Houston woman opened fire on her family members at three different locations before ultimately turning the gun on herself.

According to police, Dekitta Holmes first shot her sister, Carolyn Holmes, at her home, and Carolyn was discovered by authorities to be dead during a welfare check at the home. “Deputies made entry through a back door, and we had to force it open and we discovered an adult female, black female, deceased inside the residence,” Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls said.

According to investigators, Dekitta Holmes then drove to her home and shot an unidentified man who was inside before walking to her mother’s home. Dekitta then shot her mother, Laverne Holmes, as well as her mother’s boyfriend, Robert Lee Wesley, who was found dead at the scene. Laverne Holmes was taken to a hospital and is in critical condition.

Dekitta then made one final phone call to her niece before turning the gun on herself.

“She told her that she harmed four people. And that she wanted her children to stay together, please get them and make sure they stay together,” Dekitta Holmes’ friend, Delia Ledet, said.

While police are still investigating the matter, several friends and family members said that Dekitta was on medication and that she was troubled.
