Boston Celtics star Isaiah Thomas’ sister dies in tragic accident

Chyna J. Thomas, the sister of NBA star Isaiah Thomas, has died in a one-car accident in Tacoma, Washington.

She was driving southbound on Interstate 5 in Federal Way Saturday morning when her car went off the road and hit a pole. The 22-year-old died at the scene.

Isaiah Thomas’ team, the Boston Celtics, and the NBA have both expressed sympathy for the loss.

It was reported that on Saturday afternoon Isaiah Thomas did take part in the Celtic’s practice, but at that time, he was not aware of the accident. According to sources close to the family, Thomas plans to stay in Boston through the playoff game against the Chicago Bulls on Sunday.

The car accident happened around 5 am. Witnesses said the car appeared to be driven normally at first then “all of a sudden it started to drift very casually onto the left shoulder,” said Trooper Nick King, a spokesman for the State Patrol.

“The car went approximately 50 feet partly off the road until it ran into a barrier which vaulted the vehicle head-on into the sign post,” King said.

Thomas was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident.
