Djimon Hounsou says work on ‘King Arthur’ was a high energy challenge

Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword was just as much fun behind the scenes as it was onscreen.

The film tells the medieval tale of King Arthur, played by Charlie Hunnam, who is raised in poverty until he discovers his royal history and acquires the magical weapon that changes his life forever. Djimon Hounsou plays Sir Bedivere, one of King Arthur’s trusted knights.

Hounsou sat down with Entertainment Studios‘ Jon Kelley to chat about the adrenaline fueled set of ‘King Arthur’. While he did not have to engage in all of the sword training and workout routines that his cast mates had to endure, he was still kept busy between takes.

“Guy Ritchie was putting everyone into a workout mode on set,” Hounsou said.

Between takes, the actor recalled that Ritchie had to actors do various exercises like pull ups, to maintain the energetic atmosphere. “His world is quite exciting and challenging at the same time.”

Hounsou also talked about his brief break from acting to take time to grow his family.

“It’s been amazing, it’s been quite an amazing ride,” Hounsou said. “It almost seems like I had put my career on a standstill for a moment to have a kid and bless his soul, I have a great boy named Kenzo and I’m back again.”
