Senator Luther Strange of Alabama is facing a special election on August 15, and in a state where Donald Trump enjoys tremendous support despite nationally low polling numbers, Luther is doing his best to tie himself to the President of the United States to gain favor with the voters.
“President Trump is the greatest thing that’s happened to this country,” Strange said in Montgomery during a candidate forum on Sunday, according to AL.com. “I consider it a Biblical miracle that he’s there.”
Strange also earned applause when he promised a repeal of Obamacare.

“We’re going to take care of the most vulnerable citizens,” he said during the forum, which took place at the local Farmers Market Cafe. “But remember what this was intended to do, was to take care of disabled individuals and poor women and children. We have now turned it into a massive entitlement, just one example of the problems facing this country.”
Strange was appointed to take Jeff Sessions’ place as senator after Sessions was appointed as the United States Attorney General, but he faces significant challenges to maintaining his seat from other Republicans, such as Congressman Mo Brooks and State Sen. Trip Pittman.
