Michael Vick says Colin Kaepernick should cut afro if he wants NFL job

Michael Vick has interesting advice for Colin Kaepernick‘s chances of landing another NFL contract: cut his afro.

“First thing we’ve got to get Colin to do is cut his hair,” Vick said during a guest appearance on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak for Yourself.” “Listen, I’m not up here to try to be politically correct. Even if he puts cornrows in there. I don’t think he should represent himself in that way. Just the hairstyle. Just go clean-cut. You know, why not? You’re already dealing with a lot.”

Vick emphasized that he had love for Kaepernick, but added that his current look (and controversial protest) is not what he and others knew of him when he first entered the league.

–Is Colin Kaepernick really being blackballed?–

“I just think perception and image is everything. This is not the Colin Kaepernick that we’ve known since he entered the National Football League,” Vick added. “I’m just going off my personal experiences. Listen, I love the guy to death. But I want him to also succeed on and off the field. This has to be a start for him.”

Vick said he, too, was advised to adopt a more professional look, but didn’t adhere to the advice at the time. After getting out of prison for dog fighting, he realized he needed to clean up his image in order to get a second chance in the NFL.

Despite his advice to Kaepernick to cut his hair, Vick admitted that he thinks his inability to get signed has more to do with his game than his afro and national anthem protest.

“It’s not about selling out. When you’re good, and you’re playing great, then you’re going to be wanted. People are going to want to sign you, going to want to see you play,” he said.
