The trip was meant to celebrate their tenth anniversary of joining Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., they hired a photographer for a shoot that they dubbed “Melanin Illustrated,” in which they each donned swimsuits that matched their skin tones.
“Black women are often overlooked in beauty,” LaToya Owens, a member of the sorority’s Beta Alpha chapter, told Yahoo Style. “This was our way to shine a light on all types of black beauty.”
“Our sorority is all about black excellence . . . We want to serve as an example and [show] appreciation of black women.”
