Senate gasps as John McCain votes ‘no’ to repeal Obamacare

Senator John McCain shocked Senators when he cast his 'no' vote on the Health Care Freedom Act, the Republicans' replacement bill for Obamacare.

Early on Friday morning, Senator John McCain shocked Senators when he cast his ‘no’ vote on the Health Care Freedom Act, the Republicans’ replacement bill for Obamacare.

Video of the vote was tweeted by entrepreneur and activist Michael Skolnik and showed McCain walking to the front of the Senate floor when his name was called. He stretched out his hand, paused, and said “no” loudly enough to be heard across the Senate.

The reactions were dramatic, with several people gasping and some even applauding as McCain returned to his seat.

McCain joined Republicans Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska as well as every single Democrat and Independent in the Senate in opposing the bill, which was defeated by a vote of 51-49.
