Jokes about Janet Mock, killing trans women ignite ‘Breakfast Club’ boycott

The popular “Breakfast Club” radio show has come under fire after Lil Duval joked about murdering transgender women.

DJ Envy asked Lil Duval what he would do if he found out that a woman he was dating had been born a man, he didn’t dance around it: he said he would murder that woman.

“This might sound messed up and I don’t care — but she’s dying. I don’t care,” he said, going on to add, “If one did that to me and didn’t tell me, I’d probably be so mad I’d kill them.”

DJ Envy then held up a book by trans author and activist Janet Mock, laughing as Duval continued on with jokes against the transgender community. While Charlamagne Tha God did laugh, he insisted that Mock was pretty.

This despite the fact that Mock had been on the radio show only a week before talking about transgender rights and issues, particularly about language and what is deemed inappropriate when discussing said issues.

The transgender and LGBT community at large slammed the “jokes” and started the #breakfastclubboycott hashtag.

Transgender actress and activist Laverne Cox said of the show, “I just got teary thinking about all my sisters experiencing violence, beaten, raped, murdered and some.”

April Reign, the originator of the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag, added, “Charlamagne needs to be supporting & uplifting trans folks but uses his platform for this.”

Duval later responded to the movement against the comments on Instagram, writing:

So let me ask u slow a** transgender ni**az something. Y’all really think if u don’t tell a Man U use to be a man it’s gon be no repercussion to it? Yea ok ? if u can see why somebody would kill someone that rape them u should understand how a straight man feels. Matter fact I ain’t going back and forth with u confused ni**a bi***es
