Car drives through protest of police shooting of trans woman

Three protesters were hit when a car drove through a group of protesters in St. Louis on Wednesday.

The protesters were marching for Kiwi Herring, a transgender woman shot dead by police on Tuesday, according to FOX2.

According to police, the driver of the black Mercedes stopped and honked at the protesters before trying to drive around them. At that point, protesters surrounded the car, hitting it with their fists and a flag pole. St. Louis police spokesperson Schron Jackson said that several protesters also jumped onto the car and kicked it, and three of them were injured when the driver pulled away.

Witness Keith Rose told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the car had slowly accelerated through the group of people and that he had raised a middle finger as he was driving through.

A man and two women sustained minor injuries because of the incident, and the driver, identified as Kristy Thompson, has reportedly been arrested and charged with felony fleeing.

The vigil itself was about 100 people strong and was held for Herring, who was killed by police who were responding to a stabbing. A man with knife wounds on his face, arms, and torso identified Herring as his attacker, and she also stabbed an officer in the arm when police came to arrest her.
