Issa Rae thinks the world is ready for ‘A black 90210’

Issa Rae thinks she has found the perfect solution to all the television shows that follow white teens, a black 90210.

She was asked to share some ideas for new TV shows as part of a recent feature in The New Yorker and a black 90210 was her pitch.

“I would like to pitch you a new show about black teenagers, think ’90210′ or ‘Gossip Girl’ for black kids,” Rae said.

″Maybe it could be called ‘Ladera Heights 90041’? ‘Windsor Hills 90043’? It could be ‘Potomac Maryland 20854,’” she went on, citing black neighborhoods. “That’s the real sh*t.”

She said the storyline would follow a character named Lil Richie, who was an affluent black teen tired of the “access and the excess.”

“I would definitely have a hoe character who is always on her hoe s**t, just thirsty,” she says with a laugh. “No goodie-goodies over here, not in this show. Nobody was watching ’90210′ for Tori Spelling.”

She has previously stated she doesn’t ever want to create a show with white leads because she would rather use her platform to share the black experience.

She says in the video that she can’t remember a show that followed a black teen since Moesha.

“Where’s our ‘Gossip Girl’?” she asks. “This gossip girl is black, bitch. How about that? That’s the tagline.”
