A Georgia school district has apologized after one of its teachers reportedly told students that they could not wear shirts with the slogan “Make America Great Again.”
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that video had emerged of the teacher at River Ridge High School telling two students that they could not wear the “MAGA” shirts.
“Her actions were wrong, as the ‘Make America Great Again’ shirts worn by the students are not a violation of our School District dress code,” Barbara Jacoby, a spokeswoman for Cherokee County School District, said in a statement.
“Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower is deeply sorry that this incident happened in one of our schools,” Jacoby said, adding, “It does not reflect his expectation that all students be treated equally and respectfully by our employees.”

Jacoby added that the principal immediately met with the students and apologized to them and their families but would not discuss whether the teacher faced any disciplinary action. She would only say that “the students face no disciplinary action.”
While the disciplinary status of the teacher has not been shared, Hightower did remind teachers to check the dress code and to keep politics out of it.
