Jury selection begins in Nicki Minaj’s brother’s rape trial

Jury selection for Nicki Minaj’s older brother’s child rape trial is set to begin on Wednesday.

Nicki had posted the $100,000 bond for her brother Jelani Maraj, to get out of jail back in 2015 and according to his lawyer the brother still has his sister on his side “absolutely, 100 percent.”

Maraj was arrested in December of 2015 after being accused of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual assault of a 12-year-old child. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and could face life in prison if convicted of the crime.

“These are a bunch of lies,” David Schwartz, Maraj’s lawyer said. “There’s a big, big motive to lie here which I can’t get into right now. But these are false accusations.”

There was a less serious felony charge leveled against him as well but that has been dropped at the request of the prosecution.

In the pretrial hearing, it was revealed that prosecutors have pajama pants that allegedly have Maraj’s DNA on them in the groin area.

Minaj has no plans to appear in court on Wednesday but there is a chance she may attend other parts of her brother’s trial.
