The 2017 American Music Awards was full of highs and lows and theGrio.com was on deck for the big occasion.
Here’s a rundown of what went down at the AMAs:
Kehlani is extremely sweet and extremely tatted up. Like all over. Wow.
Even though she lost her award to Beyoncé, she was overjoyed to attend her first AMAs. She was even more excited about revealing she will be joining DJ Khaled and Demi Lovato on their upcoming tour.
Kelly Rowland was spotted hanging with her husband, Tim Weatherspoon, while hanging out in the VIP lounge backstage. She chatted it up with Nick Cannon who was on the scene repping T-Mobile, the show’s sponsor.
Most everyone was buzzing about how great Tracee Ellis Ross was doing as the show’s host by the first commercial break and people were really feeling Kelly Clarkson‘s show-opening number with Pink.
We caught a peek of Ciara walking around with her wet hair look, which caught every eye in the room.
Uber CBO, Bozoma Saint John brought her daughter, Lael and the lovely ladies looked like they were enjoying the show from the VIP Lounge.
Macklemore seemed relaxed when we spotted him backstage chatting it up with crew members during a commercial break.
DJ Khaled was all smiles (sans son) in the VIP Lounge after winning his “Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year” award for “I’m The One.” Later, we spotted him with his adorable son, Asahd, before taking selfies with Diana Ross, who brought her entire family along for the ride when she accepted the night’s huge honor of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Viola Davis is looking forward to cooking up a hand-made feast for a houseful of friends. We overheard her spilling secrets about some of the specialty dishes she will make for the holiday. “We are having 43 people over,” she said. “[My specialties are] Collard greens and cornbread dressing; mac and cheese…cranberry sauce with a lot of liqueur in it. I’m gonna put a little cinnamon stick in my Sangria this year. Look at me I’m so excited.”
Smokey Robinson was in good spirits as he walked the red carpet before the show began.
About one minute into Christina Aguilera‘s rendition of “I Will Always Love You” folks behind the scenes were shook. Talent, handlers and media members looked equally confused about whether or not anyone else thought something was awry. It was as if everyone smelled the same stinky scent but weren’t sure where it was coming from. When the camera cut to Pink‘s face, there was a collective chuckle on the event deck.
Garcelle Beauvais looked gorgeous and told us how excited she was to watch Diana Ross take the stage. “She’s such a beauty and such a talent. She can just stand there and not say anything and I’ll be screaming,” she said. “I’m so happy we have her.
Who the hell is BTS? People are going ape-shit in the street with signs and banners losing their whole entire minds over this K-Pop group like they’re throwing diamonds into the crowd. Wow.
