A Chicago-area man has been accused of stabbing his brother-in-law at least 25 times while they were on a city bus.
On Saturday, prosecutors accused Darnell R. Scott, 37, of stabbing his 50-year-old brother-in-law on Thursday while they were both riding the bus.
According to Assistant State’s Attorney Craig Taczy, Scott initially walked past his brother-in-law on the bus without saying a word, since the two of them do not have a good relationship with one another. However, the brother-in-law then approached Scott and asked him if he had sent people to “jump him.”
The two of them got into a fight, in which Scott was allegedly the one to throw the first punch, and Scott pulled out a knife during the fight. The brother-in-law was stabbed in the abdomen, arms, legs, neck and the back of his head. The stabbing was intense enough that he was partially disemboweled in front of the shocked passengers, some of whom took cell phone video of the incident.
Scott’s brother-in-law was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. Scott too was hospitalized for his injuries during the fight and was arrested after getting off the bus. Officers found the knife and said that Scott admitted to the stabbing.
Now, Scott is facing a charge of aggravated battery with great bodily harm for the incident.
