Pastor and wife convicted of defrauding congregation in million-dollar scheme

A Virginia pastor and his wife have been convicted of defrauding their congregation of nearly $2 million.

Terry Wayne Millender, who was a senior pastor at Victorious Life Church in Alexandria, and his wife, Brenda Millender, were handed their fate by a federal jury on Monday for the fraud scheme.

According to court records, the Millenders were founders of the Micro-Enterprise Management Group, which said it would be helping poor people in third world countries to get microloans to develop their own businesses.

However, the money ultimately went to line their own pockets. Prosecutors said that they used the money to help pay for a $1.75 million home as well as to pay for a birthday party and golf trips.

Now, the two of them face 20 years in prison for the fraud.

Their sentencing will take place on March 30.
