Tax bill proves the Republicans are true gangsters

The tax bill that Congress just passed, and Trump just can’t wait to sign, is the greatest heist in modern history.

This time around, the Republicans have shown they are the true gangsters, outdoing even themselves in the level of greed, graft and shadiness they have brought to the political table.

This bill shows us how gangsters can use the legislative process to wage war on poor and working people and line the pockets of corrupt, shameless politicians and their benefactors. A bank robbery was committed in full view and they don’t care that you witnessed it.

Only in America can an organized crime ring, the GOP, rush to pass the most unpopular piece of legislation in decades in the dead of night, without debate, and not only rejoice in it, but get away with it. With only 24 percent of people actually liking this plan, and only 28 percent of rural Americans and 29 percent of white folks without a college degree–you know, Trump’s base—supporting this thing, you know it was a scam to anyone who was paying attention.

Why isn’t the Republican tax scam popular? If you sprinkle sugar on a turd, does that make it candy?

Promoted as a middle-class tax cut, it is a giveaway to corporations—cutting their tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent, with a 14 percent boost in earnings to the seven largest banks who pimped you with that subprime mortgage. And this is a giveaway to the wealthiest 1 percent, who enjoy 83 percent of the gains at the expense of everyone else. The tax cut is projected to add $1.46 trillion to the national debt over a decade.

After 2025 most households will see their taxes raised. Oh, and with the gutting of the Obamacare individual mandate, expect a 10 percent hike in healthcare premiums and 13 million people to lose their coverage.

Most of all, the tax bill is the ultimate in corruption, given that the lawmakers inserted provisions that would personally benefit themselves, their donors, corporations, the top 1 percent and Trump at the expense of everyone else. A last minute real estate perk was added as a kickback for Sen. Bob Corker, who has a net worth of over $69 million, and switched his vote to yes in order to benefit by $1.2 million a year. The 13 lawmakers who crafted the bill own between $36 million and $136 million in real estate partnerships eligible for the tax cut.

They did not even try to hide the fact that they are plundering and pillaging the government, a reverse Robin Hood move to rob from those who don’t have, and give more to those who have too much.

We are talking about gangsters in the literal sense. GOP leadership received millions of dollars from Russian President Vladimir Putin through his proxies, and who knows what they promised in exchange.

Trump—who has mob ties and whose net worth is known only to him, his accountant and Special Counsel Bob Mueller–is a dumb gangster.

Think of the wiseguys in “Goodfellas” who strutted around in minks and diamonds after they robbed JFK Airport. Surrounded by a sea of mostly old, white Republican men– and Sen. Tim Scott–for the White House victory party, Trump, who stands to gain hundreds of millions from this tax heist, admitted they are pimping us, that this tax bill was meant to benefit corporations rather than working people and repeal Obamacare.

Not to mention, Trump directed his boys to “be quiet with the fake news media because I don’t want them talking too much about it,” adding, “now that it’s approved, I can say that.”

While the Republican-controlled Congress found all kinds of money to lavish on their wealthy donors, Congress failed to renew the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which means nearly 2 million low-income kids will lose health coverage next month.

Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are still in dire straits, with as many as 1,000 dead and many still without water and power. But who cares about poor Black and Latino people? They’re not rich, and they’re not white.

Gangsters run your government because they can. Chalk it up to the corruptive influence of money, and the unlimited corporate funding of the American political system, all sanctioned by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The political system isn’t broken, but is doing what it was designed to do, which is to do the bidding of private interests and lobbyists rather than serve the public, according to a Harvard Business School study.

The political industrial complex is why the country cannot solve its most pressing problems. Big banks get a bailout, but Black America doesn’t get reparations. Handguns seem more accessible than a quality education, safe drinking water or a nutritious meal. People are denied the right to vote 50 years after the Civil Rights Movement. And there’s no peace in the Middle East.

Why? Because somebody paid for that, and they have receipts.

Meanwhile, now that the Republicans have their tax cuts, guess what’s next. They’re coming for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. These morally-inept criminals have no shame, and it is time to make them pay—in the streets and in the ballot box–lest we get pimped again.
