This weekend, Ciara put out a controversial tweet, but things got even wilder when Future tried to step in the middle.
Over the weekend, Ciara got into a bit of trouble with fans when she tweeted the hashtag #levelup along with a clip of a sermon given by pastor John W. Gray III.
The topic of the sermon was the secret of a successful marriage, but the internet didn’t seem to be particularly impressed with the message.
In the sermon, Gray puts forth the idea that the Bible scripture states, “‘He that finds a wife finds a good thing.’ It didn’t say, ‘He that finds a girl that he’s attracted to, who he then begins to date, who he then calls his girlfriend, who he then buys a ring, proposes to and makes her his fiancée, who he then marries later who becomes his wife.’”
Gray didn’t stop there. He went on to add, “You’re not a wife when I marry you, you’re a wife when I find you.”
Twitter seemed to feel like this was a message about being a submissive wife, and that’s something that most women, and many men, have been over for some time.
Ciara responded to the backlash with another #levelup message: “choices. I found myself at my lowest moment. I was a single mom sitting at home, and then I realized that the perfect love I was looking for was how God loves me, how He wants me to be loved, and who He was calling me to be as a mom and as a woman. That’s when I realized that married or not married I needed to love myself. #LevelUp”
Enter Future
But when Ciara’s ex, Future, stepped into the controversy, Twitter let him have it too.
“Make sense on social media. Great Job,” Future tweeted, seeming to reignite his feud with Ciara in the process, though he didn’t specifically name her.
Some fans noted that he wasn’t brave enough to tag Ciara in his post, and others dragged him for being the reason Ciara was a single mom in her “lowest moment.” Still others pointed out that his own son calls Ciara’s husband “Papa Russ” now.
