#Tweetlikethe1600s is the hashtag you feel bad about laughing at, but laugh anyway.
The objective is to creatively craft the funniest, most ironic and, at times, inappropriate hypothetical scenario that would have occurred during ‘slavery times’ using gifs and photos.
The most popular tweets have used things like Shirley Caesar’s infamous “Beans Greens Tomatoes” sermon, outtakes from The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and random clips ripped from the social media accounts of everyday people.
While some may appear humorous, attempting to use the hashtag to portray Black people’s resilience and creativity, most are outright cringeworthy.
But we have to admit it’s hard to get through them all without a chuckle.
