It’s a sad day in America. We’re on our 18th school shooting this year and it’s only February.
In Parkland, Florida, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz went on a shooting spree, murdering 17 people.
Cruz was a former student at Stoneman Douglas High School and reportedly used an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle.
One survivor, a junior at the high school named Samantha Grady, described grabbing a book to shield herself from bullets
Today a subdued President Trump addressed the nation, saying we are “one American family.”
But are we one American family? It’s clear that the gun lobby has a vested interest in keeping assault weapons available and accessible.
Even with a background check, why do civilians need semiautomatic rifles?
According to The New York Times, there have many more than 200 school shootings since Sandy Hook, when 26 children and teachers were murdered in Newtown.
It’s time to stand up and fight back.
